The President and Board of Directors of the Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia invite members to the 2022 Annual General Meeting and Pinnacle lecture. This year, both events will be held virtually on Zoom. Separate registration is required for each event.

Pinnacle Lecture

The Pinnacle Lecture will be held as a separate event on Wednesday, March 9 at 5:30 PM. SEABC’s Pinnacle Lectures epitomize high calibre topics on themes that shape the future of our profession. The topic for this year is “Forty Years Design Enjoyment and Lessons Learned” by Paul Fast.

Paul will share insight into several of his favourite projects with behind the scene anecdotal commentary. He will also share some of his most valuable design and business lessons learned, as well as give his projection of what lies ahead for the structural engineering profession. Young engineers in particular will benefit from what should be should be an inspirational and stimulating talk. Questions from the audience will be welcomed at the end of the presentation.

This year’s Pinnacle Lecture will be held via Zoom.  Registration is required (separate from AGM).

Meet our Keynote Presenter

Paul Fast, P.Eng., Struct.Eng, P.E., FIStructE, Beratender Ingenieur (IngKH)

As founder of Fast + Epp, Paul is passionate about design excellence. He has emerged a leader in architecturally-exposed structures and is recognized for his unconventional use of materials, including hybrids of timber, concrete and steel.

Following graduation with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering in 1981 from the University of British Columbia, Paul worked for four years with two prominent Vancouver consulting firms, where he gained valuable experience working on the Expo ‘86 Modular Pavilion System and the Expo ‘86 geodesic dome (now Science World), which would have a lasting impact on his career.

In 1985, Paul decided to establish his own company, Paul Fast Associates Ltd.; four years later the corporate partnership of Fast + Epp was born.

For over three decades, Paul has been the design lead for many of the firm’s most significant award winning projects, including the Richmond Olympic Oval roof, the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre, the Kingsway Pedestrian Bridge, and the 18-storey Tallwood House at UBC.
