This seminar will cover general topics in design and construction of masonry buildings in Canada. Topics include, masonry materials (bricks, blocks, mortar, grout, reinforcement), masonry construction technology, MIBC technical manual, examples of structural masonry and veneer cladding details.

Seismic design of masonry structures: implications of NBC2015 and CSA S304-14 , summary of changes in the codes, and Seismic design guide for masonry buildings, (second edition written by Svetlana Brzev and Don Anderson) along with design examples will be reviewed.

Masonry veneer cladding design and details for full bed and adhered masonry with some real project design examples and construction caveats will also be presented.
