This seminar discussed performance-based earthquake engineering practice for tall buildings in United States, and presented lessons learned from peer reviewing more than a dozen of such buildings. New developments embodied in the newly released PEER-TBI II and Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council (LATBSDC) Guidelines for seismic analysis and design such buildings were reviewed. The majority of tall buildings in western United States are currently being designed using this approach rather than prescriptive code procedures.
